Drew’s Deep Thoughts & Questions – Volume 10

DeepThoughts1)  Drew (age 6): “Scientists don’t KNOW anything — they just think they know things.  Only God knows for sure.”

Think about that one for awhile.

2) Malia (age 8): “Is everyone in the world related?”

Dad: “What do you mean?”

Malia: “Well, since Adam and Eve were the only people in the world and they had kids and their kids had kids, . . ., wouldn’t we all be related to each other?”

Now be honest . . . how many times have you thought about this in your life?

3) Drew (age 7): “Hey dad, have you ever noticed that the Gulf of Mexico looks like a brain?”

My answer was “no,” I had never noticed that.  But it’s true — check it out, it’s pretty cool.

Welcome to my blog!

Welcome to my new blog!  photo

Through “Light from the Darke,” I am excited to share with you what I’m learning in this journey called life through posts that hopefully will make you experience a range of emotions from joy and happiness, to amazement and wonder, to anger and disgust, to sadness and grief, and everywhere in between.  And in so doing, you will think deeply about your own lives and passions, and be provoked to action.  I also want this to be a dialogue between and among me, you, and many other readers around the world.  The only way to learn from each other is to share what we’re learning and experiencing with each other.

I am the husband of one incredible wife and the daddy of five biological children ranging from 11 years to 21 months, who have given me a deep, personal, first-hand understanding of my selfishness, impatience, and many other failings, while also showing me many of my strengths and providing me a lot of fun, joy, laughter, and other gifts that only they can.  I also serve with Providence, an organization committed to best practices and excellence in orphan care communities, as its President/CEO, and continue to learn lessons every day about how to lead people and movements.  Visit the “About” page if you’re interested in discovering more about my story.

As the blog sub-title implies, I will be posting stories, thoughts, lessons, and other musings from my experiences in my family, my readings, my leadership of Providence (, and my everyday life, among other things.  One fan favorite that I will be continuing from one of my other blogs will be the “Drew’s Deep Thoughts and Questions” series, which chronicles deep and sometimes not-so-deep questions, thoughts, and funny statements by my children over the past few years.

So let’s get started and see where this goes . . .
